Application of dimethyl sulfoxide:
Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is a non proton polar solvent. Due to its special solvent effect on chemical reactions and solubility properties for many substances, it has always been known as the “versatile solvent”. Widely used in fields such as petroleum processing, organic synthesis, synthetic fibers, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, separation and purification of gas and liquid mixtures, crop cultivation and breeding, and microbial mutagenesis breeding. As a reaction solvent, it is widely used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates in the pharmaceutical industry. It has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, diuretic, sedative, blood circulation promoting and wound healing effects, as well as significant tumor inhibition. It has strong penetration ability to the body and can carry and enhance other drugs, increasing drug absorption and improving therapeutic efficacy. At present, bone friendly spirit, athlete’s foot medicine, skin hydrogen pine ointment and other external medicines produced in China, as well as external preparations in major hospitals, have been widely used.

There are still many new applications under development or about to be developed. At present, its application in animals is limited, mainly as a cryoprotectant for tissue cells. In addition, the Institute of Veterinary Medicine of the Chinese Academy of Sciences used DMSO to dissolve “pas” to treat equine transmitted poverty and parasitic diseases.

MSM is used in industry as a high-temperature solvent and raw material for organic synthesis, gas chromatography stationary phase, analytical reagent, food additive, and drug.
